Consulting, a leading global strategy advisor, needed to complement its deep strategy and analytical capabilities with hands-on, business change delivery skills, provided by a team of independent consultants led by Steve Bannister. The team supported L.E.K. in the delivery of a major change programme for a large, complex UK central government department.

Serco was delivering the IT service for Coventry City Council, including the management of networks, desktops and telephony and the delivery of new social care, revenue and payroll applications. The service suffered from poor performance, technical problems and growing customer dissatisfaction. Significant improvements were urgently required and Serco was at risk of losing its contract.

The TTSC consortium, primed by BAE Systems with key subcontractors Boeing and Serco, was bidding for the £ multi-billion future strategic tanker aircraft (FSTA) contract. The successful bidder would provide the RAF with up to 30 years of refueling and tanker support delivered as an innovative managed service. The consortium was facing very high IT costs over the lifetime of the programme and needed to reduce them significantly to underpin a competitive bid.
